Much of the information below is covered in your Speaker Information Pack, and will be covered at the Speaker and Miniconf Organiser Briefing Session on Sunday 31st January, but we?re recapping here, as we realise how busy you all are. https://linux.conf.au/wiki/Information_for_Speakers#Speaker_Information_Pack What resolution should the slides / notes for my presentation be? As previously communicated, your slides/notes should be 16:9 ratio. We will be using 720p resolution (1280 x 720p). What connections will there be? Do I need to bring my own adapter? Allrooms will onlyhave HDMI connectors. If you need an adapter to output HDMI, please bring it with you. If you forget your HDMI adapter, the A/V team might have one you can use - but there are no guarantees! Please contact the Speaker Liaison via return email if you must use VGA output. We do have a limited number of VGA to HDMI converters, but they may cause display issues. Note:Previously information had indicated that Wool Museum was VGA only, this is turned out not to be the case. Can I test my laptop / setup? Yes! It is also recommended that you do so.A test setup will be available in the Speaker and Media room, this will be identical to the in-room setup allowing you to plug your laptop in and check that it works. What has changed this year? This year the conference will be using new hardware for video recording. This hardware has been trailed at a number of other conferences, but as with any new system there are likely to be unforeseen problems. Why has the capture hardware changed? The new hardware is part of the TimVideos.us' HDMI2USB project and enables capture in high definition. It has also been is designed to reduce the common issues presenters have when trying to present. Even more awesomely, the capture hardware is a fully open source design , running open source firmware ! What can I do to ensure my slides are as good as they possibly can be? We?ll be covering common errors at the Speaker and Miniconf Organiser Briefing on Sunday afternoon, but they can be summarised at; * Ensure that text isn?t too close to the borders / sides of your slides o Projectors have a tendency to cut the sides of your slides! * Ensure that text is large enough to be readable at a distance (> 18 point is usually a good guide) o If you can read your slide in the thumbnail preview, that is a good sign. * Ensure that text has good contrast o Many of the projectors have very poorcontrast. Just because it looks okay on your computer screen doesn't mean it will look okay on the projector. o Many people have problems with seeing low contrast. Please also try to consider colorblind people when picking colors. * Ensure that you spellcheck your document * We respectfully request that language used should be suitable for a 12 year old to listen to (easy on the profanity please) and request that sexually explicit or similarly potentially offensive imagery be avoided. To further assist you, we're providing further information on where to catch the buses. Where do I catch the bus at the airport? At Melbourne Tullamarine (MEL) /This is where most people are arriving. If you're not sure which airport you're flying into, it's very likely to be this one!/ Volunteers in bright orange t-shirts will be roaming the airport. Look for the Volunteers in the bright orange t-shirts! The buses will depart from Bus Zone "L" (L for Lima) outside the international terminal. Bus zone L is coloured blue in this map. At Avalon Airport (AVV) Look for the Volunteers in the bright orange t-shirts in the Arrivals lounge. They will guide you to the bus. On behalf of the conference team, we'd like to take this opportunity to wish you safe travels to Geelong, and we're delighted to host you in our home city. We're sure you'll have a wonderful time, and we can't wait to share what's going to be an amazing conference experience with you. Wanted to ask them a well thought out question, but the question time was taken up with a comment thinly disguised as a question? Fear no more! This year, all Keynote questions will be curated, and only the best questions will be asked of the Keynote Speaker, by a facilitator. How do you ask a question? You email keynote at lcabythebay.org.au with your question, clearly indicating; - the Keynote - the question - your name / identifier Great questions will be asked. Poor questions will not. Easy. Questions for Miniconfs, normal Presentations, Tutorials and Prototypes will happen as per the usual practice of putting up your hand and being given a microphone. Thank you in advance!
